2D・3D Integrated Camera Visual Inspection System

This page introduces 2D・3D Integrated Camera Visual Inspection System.

What is 2D・3D Integrated Camera Visual Inspection System?

As pretreatment, iVision identifies suspected defective part from a wide area image data acquired by 2D inspection method.

Then, with image data acquired by 3D inspection method, it performs an inspection of specified part with a high accuracy including height information again.

As introduced above, it improves an inspection speed and achieves a visual inspection with accuracy and precision by performing a wide area inspection as 2D inspection method and a precise visual inspection as 3D inspection method in combination.

【Difference from conventional visual inspection】

Conventional visual inspection has two different types of inspection system.

  • 2D method which specifies defect part of product by processing planar image data.
  • 3D method which specifies defect part of product by processing image data including three-dimensional element (height).

Details are below of each inspection methods.

Visual Inspection with 2D method Camera

By using industrial Cameras for the general public, you can select low cost lens with your purpose and capture a wide area image. It reduces cost and is suitable for a wide area image inspection.

However, it is planar information, it can’t judge about height. To detect defect part, you need to illuminate defect part with light and it judges with contrasting shadows as judgment materials. However, there are many cases that shadows don’t appear clearly because of the reflection of light.

To prevent this issue, it needs to set judgment condition strictly. However, it sometimes judges that non-shadow part is shadow part mistakenly. The inspection level sometimes is low as a result.

Example 2D captured image with scratch which is difficult to be detected

Visual Inspection with 3D method Camera

In addition to 2D image data, it can capture 3D image data which has height information by measuring rough of defect part with laser light and it is not affected by light (condition of reflection) with illumination environment.

3D camera system can properly detect even a small scratch which can not be found without changing an angle with human eyes many times.
3D camera system can perform precise inspection and suitable for inspection which high accuracy is required.

However, laser light is a pinpoint ray of light. Because of this, if it is wide area image inspection which a whole of item is captured, 3D method takes several dozens of times longer than 2D method to capture images.

Example data of 3D captured image with a part of scratch (measure a height of scratch)

Part with green color is deep scratch and it can be judged from the data clearly.

Visual Inspection System with 2D・3D Integrated Camera

It is more stable than conventional visual inspections, because it conducts process of 2D wide area inspection method and 3D high precise inspection method including height information at the same time.

By integrating these two inspection methods, it achieves a visual inspection with all ability, speed-up, accuracy and precision.

And, this system solves human error because of inspector’s health condition.

You don’t need to worry about an oversight of small scratch or defect part.

2D・3D Integrated Camera doesn’t require a big inspection space.

Besides this 2D・3D Integrated Camera, when capturing images in 3D inspection method, it can perform an inspection in a stationary state and doesn’t require driving mechanism to capture an image. So, it will contribute space-saving.

Moreover, it can improve an inspection speed by using 2D method area camera together.

Introduction Suggestion

This equipment is suitable for surface inspection of product (metal part, semiconductor wafer, Resin moldings etc)which is 1mm ~ 300mm in four directions.

In the special purpose machine, you can not add required function, but, in iVision, you can add a function which matches to inspection requirement.
And, it can reduce installation cost, and delivery date reduction can be realized.

iVision can solve some current visual inspection issues such as a shortage of workers, low inspection quality because with advancement of an age of a worker.
And, this system contributes improvement of an inspection precision which is insufficient in conventional 2D inspection, and contributes improvement of an inspection speed of wide area inspection that 3D inspection method has as an issue.
